Sutherland Insurance Makes Generous Gift to Support Guelph General Hospital
Guelph General Hospital is celebrating a remarkable gift of $100,000 from long-time Hospital supporter Sutherland Insurance. The gift supports the Hospital’s most urgent and essential needs.
For over 151 years Sutherland Insurance has been serving the insurance needs of Guelph and Wellington County. The Sutherland habit of giving back to the community traces its roots back to the founder, John Sutherland. In the 1890s there was a severe fire in a neighboring village which wiped out the hotel, some stores, and dwellings. No one had any insurance, and the next day, before the ashes were cold, John Sutherland rode into town with a hamper filled with food.
The legacy of giving back to the community continues today with the 4th and 5th generation of Sutherlands. When the Sutherland Family heard about the urgent needs of the hospital through the Together, We Care campaign, they knew they wanted to help, having seen the impact Guelph General makes to families in our community every day.
The generous donation was applauded by hospital President and CEO, Marianne Walker. “I am always amazed by spirit of philanthropy in Guelph, particularly in long-time pillars of the community like the Sutherland Family. We are so grateful for their support, allowing us to purchase essential and lifesaving equipment and provide the highest quality care and experience to our patients.”
